Chicago NORML & Midwest Hemp Coalition

The mission of for this collaboration is to provide hemp education to those unaware of the economic benefits within the hemp industry. Both Chicago NORML and Midwest Hemp Coalition take pride in their efforts towards advocating for safe medicinal access to cannabis, cannabis rights, and educating their communities on the economic, political and health benefits cannabis brings.

 

Hemp is a vehicle that can be used to stimulate the economic growth in communities, especially disproportionately impacted areas.” This collaborative effort with Chicago NORML is the perfect match to educate and promote this emerging industry.

OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of the Illinois Hemp Grant is to increase awareness and participation in Hemp Industry. The Hemp Industry is quietly creating waves in alternative medicine. It is more affordable for members of disproportionately impacted areas to create business opportunities for themselves and their community if they are properly educated and given the opportunity. This grant helps promote small hemp based businesses to grow and expand their products or services to diverse demographics. This grant will provide one winner with one year of free accounting, legal, and marketing services. The winner will receive one year of licensing application fees paid, and a Hemp 101 class for 2 of their staff members.


WHO'S ELIGIBLE?

This competition is for new or emerging hemp businesses that offer hemp based products or services:

  • Cultivators

    Small agribusinesses legally growing

  • Farmers

    Large or mid-sized growers thinking about adding a new type of crop

  • Processors

    Got a processing plant? Hemp can be used to process industrial materials like concrete, building materials, and even medication!  

  • Infusers

    Using hemp for your candles, bath bombs or other products?

  • Hemp Supporting Ancillary Businesses

    Packaging, labeling, Transportation, Waste, Security, and even Administration services! 

Other Criteria:

  • Your primary business is based in Illinois

  • You have been in business for a minimum of six months

  • You have professional staff, either paid or volunteer

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

RULES

TWO ROUNDS

 

- Judges will score Round One participants based on 2 categories.

  • Application Evaluation (15 possible points)
  • 3-minute Pitch Video Submission Evaluation (15 possible points)

The 5 highest scorers will be notified on October 15, 2020 and move on to Round Two

 

- Round Two participants will have a one-on-one presentation with the judges via Zoom.

  • Q&A & Feedback

    There will be no Q & A from the judges  in round one. Instead, the judges will give feedback to the contestants in preparation for round two. 

  • Team Work Makes the Dreamwork

    Up to 2 people from the company can speak in the video and in person submission. Those people must be the owner or co-owner(s) of the business.

TIMELINE

  • 15 AUGUST 2020

    Application Open for Submissions

    Applications will be accepted beginning August 15th and will be open until  September 30th.

  • 30    SEPTEMBER 2020

    Application Closes & Judges  Review

    Application submission will be closed on September 30th. Judges will then review Round One application and video submissions.  

  • 15 OCTOBER    2020

    Round Two Participants Selected

    Judges will complete round one evaluations and select round two participants on October 15th. Round two participants will be notified. 

  • 30   OCTOBER   2020

    Final Round Pitch - Live via Zoom

    Round two participants will pitch their business plan in person via zoom with the judges. Judges will conclude with a brief Q&A session.

MANNY  MENDOZA

Chicago native Chef Manny Mendoza provides free eduction and insight into all things Cannabis. After spending several years researching the medical and now emerging recreational Cannabis Industry in California, Chef Manny is now beginning to come back to share as much information as possible to communities across Chicago. A recent winner of Netflix's "Cooked with Cannabis", Manny is also the owner of Herbal Notes, a supper club specializing in infused meals.

TIFFANY REYNOLDS

Soul and Wellness Medical Marijuana Services & Education is among the most respected medical marijuana agencies in Chicago.  As the owner of Soul and Wellness, Tiffany’s goal is to introduce the greater Chicagoland area to a wide array of medical marijuana services &  education.

RYAN RAPAPORT

Ryan is a consultant and strategic advisor for companies in the Cannabis and Entertainment industry. These companies include Lobo, VYBN, and Best In Grow.  Ryan serves on the Retail Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association, and on the advisory council for Better Business Bureau’s Cannabis practice. Previously, he also worked with top international cannabis brands as a Business Development Manager at Vangst.

Andrew serves on the Marketing & Advertising Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association.  Former Director of Marketing for Street Execs, the management entity of multi-platinum entertainers, including 2 Chainz and Young Dolph.  Andrew also founded Selective PR Agency in 2015, an entertainment and lifestyle marketing agency that partnered with dozens of major label artists, brands, and labels. Former Public Relations Director for Seven 13 Music, which was the third largest Indie label under UMG, later acquired by Sony. Andrew’s business accolades have been featured in Fortune, The Associated Press, BET, Cannabis Business Times, and more.
